General Questions • How do I make persistence permanent on Live USB

I have created a UBS with persistence. It works but I would like to edit grub o the live external SSD so that I don't have to write persistence every time I start the SSD. Not sure where grub hides on a USB live? I searched the site but didn't find anything.

The best scenario would be to install on the SSD and I'll stick it into the box. It's an old 120 GB SSD that I found laying around. But what I don't want is for Grub to be installed anywhere, anyplace on my main SSD. Just went through a big dual boot / Grub issue on another box and I kind of like having the install only on the SSD and at boot I can choose which SSD to boot.
