Debian user here, but by no means an expert. I can pretty much handle anything doable by "apt install" or sometimes flatpak or dpkg, but I get confused quickly beyond that. I use Debian 12 on my desktop computer (an Optiplex 7020), and Debian 11 on my laptop (a Latitude 7490).
My laptop started having some odd keyboard issues following its automatic software updates yesterday. On booting, I was not able to register any keyboard input (at least from the built-in keyboard) on the login screen. I eventually figured out that I could use the onscreen keyboard to enter my password with the touchpad, after which I installed the SDDM display manager and set it as default, thus changing the login screen and making it possible to sign in using the keyboard.
HOWEVER, the problems are not gone, as every other input once I start Gnome Classic is taking a long time to respond to a repeated key stroke, regardless of whether it is in a browser, terminal, or office app. For example, if I type "jjkkll;;", or even "jkl;jkl;", it will register only "jkl;" unless I take perhaps a second or two before pressing any key for the second time. This problem does not currently happen on the SDDM login screen, nor does it seem to be affecting USB MIDI inputs (the laptop is used primarily as a virtual musical instrument platform). Is this a known issue? Any way for a comparative Debian n00b to solve it?
Here's the system information that I know to share (again, Dell Latitude 7490 laptop comptuer):
31.2GiB RAM
i7-8650U 1.90GHz x 8
Mesa Intel UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2)
512.1 GB disk
OS Debian 11 (bullseye)
OS Type 64 bit
Gnome 3.38.5
WIndowing X11
Updates: System is up to date
