Graphical Environments & Desktops • Cannot logout of KDE Session

I am using Debian Bookworm ver 12.6 with KDE Plasma ver 5. For the past few days I am having a very peculiar problem with KDE. I cannot log out and log into another user. Reboot works just fine. Shutdown works fine. However logout does not work. As soon as I try to log out the screen goes blank/black. Nothing works and I have to physically power off and power on the machine. I tried to do the following but still the same behaviour

Tried Whisker Menu > Power > Log Out. Blank/Black screen and have to power down and power up the machine.
Tried to log out by giving the command qdbus org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer logout 0 0 1 in a terminal. Still the same behaviour. This command was taken from the KDE Blog entry.
Tried the key combination CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+DEL. Still the same behaviour. Screen goes blank/black

Can you please help me in resolving the issue?
